About me

Making pottery is my second career, after having worked in Bay Area restaurant kitchens for ten years. The philosophies of working in a local, mindful, and handmade manner that have become such an integral part of California cuisine have been hugely formative in the way I now work with clay. I feel that both food and ceramics have a duty to be as functional as possible, while celebrating and exploring the potential beauty of the ingredients used.

The handmade aspect of my work is something that I believe in deeply. No presses, molds, or machinery is used in the forming of the wares. For this reason, every piece will show slight variation in shape and surface.

Through my work I hope to contribute to the evolution of the Bay Area food culture, and to explore the potential of local geology in the same way that chefs have been utilizing the unique ingredients of the region.
